Can you guess the top ten Valentine's Day gifts? I have an idea that candy, flowers and jewelry rank pretty high on the list. These are all great presents, but, they don't always show a lot of thought and effort for that special love in your life. How about creating a gift basket of their favorite things? Here are my top five gift basket ideas that you can make yourself.
1. Movie Night Basket
Line the basket with a fleece blanket for couch cuddling as you watch your flick. Add popcorn with homemade seasonings, Redbox or Netflix gift cards (check our Top Seven Ways to Get Free Movies for ideas), and a fun beverage mix. Tang is a neat one. When's the last time you had that?!
2. Cookie Mix Basket
Create homemade cookie mix and place in a decorated mason jar with cooking directions. Add small containers of mix-ins for the cookies such as carob, peanut butter, chocolate or butterscotch chips. Sprinkles and icing are fun too.
3. Spa Basket
Oatmeal, sugar, olive oil, honey and sea salt are all great to make homemade scrubs and soothers. WebMD has some ideas to help you get started. Add a little bubbly to the basket with a flavored seltzer or champagne.
4. Indoor Picnic Basket
Line the basket with white indoor string lights (you'll need to present this one near an outlet). Add tasty treats including grapes, dried fruits, cheese, crackers and chocolate. Tuck in a small furry blanket to picnic upon. For romantic ambiance, string the lights above you as evening stars for your indoor picnic!
5. Flower and Vegetable Basket
Center the basket with a potted herb such as rosemary or basil. Sew remaining space with seed packets of her favorite flowers and garden eats, a planter's knee pad, small shovel and gloves. Show you really care with a cute sun hat and insect repellant. Not romantic but very useful!
This gift will have her thinking of you through spring and summer. Be sure to lend her a hand during planting season to ensure good, happy thoughts!
