We absolutely love to play with our food. Our latest obsession is making all kinds of designs in our pancakes. It's crazy easy and a super kid-friendly activity. This could be a great birthday morning or breakfast-in-bed surprise as well!
- Step One: Heat your non-stick pan to medium. Once a drop of water sizzles on the skillet, squirt pancake mix from a squeeze bottle. If you want to shake the idea up even further, add food coloring to the concoction and use multiple bottles of different colors. Hint from experience: Do NOT use fresh blueberries in your mix. They clog up the exit ramp. You could always place some berries or even chocolate chips in the design in step three. I also cut the tip open a bit because the mix can be a little chunky.
- Step Two: Create the darkest parts of your design and let cook until just beginning to bubble (usually less than a minute). If you are doing letters, make sure that you draw them backwards because your final product is going to be like a mirror reflection.
- Step Three: Fill in the design as quickly as possible for even cooking and flip as soon as it starts to bubble. This is also generally less than a minute after filling. If you are adding fruit or chocolate chips, this is the time to do it.
- Step Four: Take a picture; post it on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and tag Resourceful Living because we'd love to see your designs! Then...EAT!!
