I love meatloaf. My kids? Not so much. So, I decided to try and make it a little more fun for them to eat. There is much room for improvement on the idea but here is a quick guide on how we made our meatloaf wreath.
For the month of November, here is a jump start to your theme dinner journey. Thanksgiving is a great holiday that involves yummy food, hordes of friends and family and often a bit of stress. Throw a few kids into the mix and you sometimes wish the Holiday to be done before it begins!
Let’s skip all that drama, remember what makes it fun and meaningful and set the kids in action to help. Following is a road map to create your own Thanksgiving Theme Dinner.
This crazed cat pretty much sums up how I feel around October 1st when my kids begin clamoring for fun Halloween ideas. Topping it off are thoughts of endless candies hiding in every nook and cranny of our house for a month afterwards. Even though we have limits on how much post-Halloween candy can be enjoyed each day, I inevitably find suspicious empty wrappers under rugs, behind beds, in backpacks...everywhere except the trashcan. Little do my sneaky kids know, I probably would be less likely to notice them there.
The one meal everyone in my family seems to like is breakfast. It is also the meal that I rarely have adequate time to mess with. Mornings are crazy enough already. Do you really want to add popping bacon grease to it?
Part of surviving fall in our house is intertwined into surviving school with my three girls and all the stuff they bring home. It came to a head this weekend with a bit of a bad-Mommy moment. Unfortunately, it wasn't my first and won't be my last but I'm working to put the odds closer to the kids' favor than mine.
Since being diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I have been on a very long journey...searching for the perfect pizza crust. I have found a few which give me happiness. Udi's is palatable and Domino's has a small gluten free pizza that tastes just like the real thing (However, there is a possibility of cross contamination. So, buyer, beware). I hear Papa John's ancient grain crust is tasty too.
My husband is a history teacher, Seinfeld aficionado and movie buff. We spend an embarrassing amount of time communicating with each other through quotes. Now that the girls have caught onto this general strangeness, we don't just speak in our alien language, we are now writing it on sticky notes and hiding our favorite sayings in random places for each other to find. Lunchboxes, in the middle of books that my girls are in the process of reading, book bags, pants pockets, drawers, behind picture frames...these words of wisdom will be popping up for years to come.
About five years ago, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Since then, I am on a near daily search for tasty, easy and healthy snack and meal plans. Going gluten free isn't as hard as it seems but it also isn't always great fun. Roast Beef & Mozzarella Roll-Ups are a hit with me and my family thanks to their tastiness and versatility.
Just finished this delicious Black Bean and Corn Vegetable Wrap created by Cindy Silver of Market Basket Nutrition. I accidentally used lemon instead of lime (long story). Anyway, you can't tell in the video and it actually tastes great!
Let me know what you think and what you may add, or subtract. Or, better yet, share your favorite wrap recipes and we'll try to re-create them!
Last year, we took an epic road trip across America with our three girls. The van will never smell the same. But, it's the beginning of many journeys to come. Therefore, I must be frugal about our 'adventures' within our adventure.
For last year's trip, we purchased passes for unlimited visits to every Six Flags in the country. For the most part, we were able to rely on that for our entertainment. However, we still wanted to visit and enjoy the amazing sites between parks. Here are sources to save money on activities when you travel:
Patiently, I wait. I wait for all of the cruise companies to begin knocking down my door and ask me to be their personal blogger while setting my friends and family up in their deluxe balcony cabins so that I can share their magic with the world, ultra-luxury style. Flight included. Hey, if you're gonna reach, may as well aim for the ocean stars. Alas, neither doorbell nor phone has yet to ring. One day it may. Until then, we still cruise and love every moment. Here is a little bit of my reality to help you cruise too without opening an equity line on your house.
Summer with a baby can be daunting. Especially if it's your first rodeo with a little one by your side. I recall a gentle chastise by a great uncle many years ago as I fussed and worried over my three month old beneath the shade of our canopy during our first summer beach trip. I was convinced that she would overheat and kept spraying
Grab a little luck of the Irish by eating fun, green food and planning (or planting) a spring garden! Menu:

What can possibly be more fun than taking the kids grocery shopping with you? Well, yes, pretty much anything. Since sometimes we simply have no choice but to bring along our little proteges, we may as well make it as fun as possible. Distraction is key. To help you out a little, I've put together a few ideas of grocery store scavenger hunts for all ages! Yee-ha!
